Manchester United and Everton have both reached an agreement for Morgan Schneiderlin in a deal worth £22million.
The 27-year-old was signed by Louis Van Gaal from Southampton in July 2015 for £25million but have not been able to secure a regular position since he joined Manchester United.
He has made 47 appearances for United but he has only featured just eight times under Mourinho this season, with three premier league appearances.
The former Southampton midfielder played more games under Louis Van Gaal, making 29 appearances in the premier league.
Manchester United earlier rejected a bid for the Frenchman from West Brom, prompting Everton to make an improved bid for him.
He was at Everton’s training ground on Friday and looks set to join Ronald Koeman, who tutored him at Southampton.
Mourinho had already admitted that Schneiderlin and teammate Memphis Depay would be sold if the right offer is made.
Following United’s 2-0 win over Hull City, Mourinho said “Ed Woodward, our Executive vice chairman informed me that his situation is very close. The negotiation has reached an advance stage. It’s almost clear that he would be going to Everton.
“I am sad and happy at the same time, am sad because I like him and he is definitely an option for us in midfield, am happy because he wants to play and become a regular in a team. That is what he wants and he will get a better chance at Everton”
Andros Townsend, a football analyst said “Schneiderlin has struggled to stamp his authority on anything at United but he gets the ground running and he tackles well.
“At his best, he is a typical player any premier league team will want to have. Everton know they are buying a player with premier league experience. Morgan Schneiderlin is definitely not a gamble”.
