Conte encourages defender to aim for first team place

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is pleased to have Nathan Ake back. Ake  a 21 year old Dutch player has been on loan to Bournemouth but was called back recently. Conte believes that the 21-year-old Dutch defender is ready to challenge for a first team place.

Nathan Ake has been impressive ever since he broke into Bournemouth’s first team and the Chelsea manager believes that he is capable of claiming a spot in his three-man defense line. Conte believes the young player is also capable of playing well if he gets first team play.

With Ake called back from loan and the return of Kurt Zouma from an eleven-month absence due to injury, there will be a lot of pressure on John Terry.

John Terry was dismissed in the match against Peterborough after returning from a two-month absence and it’s not clear yet if the club will be offering him a new deal when his current contract expires this summer.

The Chelsea manager said: I called Nathan Ake back because I think he’s showing signs to be ready to take a prominent place in the Chelsea squad,”

“Chelsea is his home. In the last season he played a whole season in the Premier League with Watford. This season he was playing with Bournemouth. He’s showing to deserve to stay in a great team like Chelsea.

“Ake gives me options, because we are playing with three defenders. He can play on the left; he can play in the middle. Also it’s important to see during a training session if he can play as a wind-back. Me, the club, we wanted to bring back Ake because he gives me good opportunity, good solutions.”

The Chelsea manager said he loves his team’s performance after they defeated Peterborough to book a place in the fourth round of the FA Cup, but what makes him happy the most is the return of Kurt Zouma after spending eleven months on the sideline.

“There were many good answers,” said the Italian. “Zouma first of all because he came back after 11 months. He played 90, 95 minutes. It’s fantastic for him.”
