PSG joins race for City, United and Liverpool’s ace

French giants PSG is interested in signing Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk who is in the best form of his life this season.

Virgil Van Dijk has been attracting interests from top English clubs following his impressive form for Southampton this season.

Liverpool is already preparing for a bid for the defender in January with Manchester City and Manchester United also keeping a close watch.

Manchester City is already planning a £50 million offer as discreet talks over his transfer has started. City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristian is in charge of the negotiation, and he’s aware the prospect of Champions League football will entice the defender.

Guardiola is in dire need of a central defender with Premier League experience as City only has three clean sheets from 17 premier league matches.

Mourinho is also considering Dijk as a replacement for Eric Bailey who will be away for the African Cup of Nations this January.

Despite strong interest from various clubs, Southampton is unwilling to sell their prized asset this January, but an offer in the range of £50 million could cause a change of mind.

If the 25 years old is sold for that amount, it will represent a huge profit as they paid Celtic £13 million for his services in September 2015 and Southampton has a track record of selling their best players for the right price.

Southampton extended his contract for another six years at the beginning of the season, but they will fight to keep hold of him in the summer if a move does not materialize this January.

The recent interest from PSG might raise the asking price of the Dutch defender as PSG is never shy of splashing large sums of money to sign players that interest them.

His defensive partner at Southampton Jose Fonte is still yet to sign a new deal. The 33-year-old player has been offered a new deal worth more than £70,000 a week, but he wants a better deal

Southampton might consider selling the Portuguese this January instead of Virgil Van Dijk.
