With Oscar set to leave Chelsea, it seems the blues are shifting their attention to Real Madrid star James Rodriguez.
Rodriguez joined Real Madrid after a spectacular performance at the world cup in 2014. He joined from Monaco in a deal worth £63 million with the hope of becoming a regular in the starting lineup.
The Colombian has fallen out of favor at the Santiago Bernabeu under the current manager, Zinedine Zidane. He only managed to make eight appearances so far this season, and he admitted that his future is no longer with Madrid.
Chelsea has emerged as the favorites to land the play maker ahead of longtime admirer Manchester United. Chelsea is reportedly willing to spend up to $75million to bring him to the Stamford Bridge.
The Blues will be $60 million richer from the sale of Oscar to Chinese giant Shanghai Shenhua, and they are expected to use the money to find a replacement.
Antonio Conte, the new Chelsea manager, is a long-term admirer of Rodriguez. He tried to sign him in the last transfer season.
Rodriguez is not happy with life on the Real Madrid bench; the 25-year-old believes he should be playing regularly, but since Zidane is not ready to offer him first team football, he will have to look elsewhere.
It appears this is the right time for Rodriguez to leave Madrid; he has only started six out of Madrid’s 23 games this season. He didn’t play at all in seven matches and appeared as a substitute in the rest.
He wants first team football, but it seems this will not come anytime soon under Zinedine Zidane. He could well move to London where he can fit in as an attacking midfielder at Stamford Bridge as interest from old Trafford has not come as expected since Jose Mourinho took charge.
