Currently, Colombian international James Rodriguez has suffered a lack of game time. The Real Madrid Boss, Zinedine Zidane sees this as a challenge the club has to resolve. It is noteworthy that the Colombian international has played few games this season as he spends much time on the bench; this has caused the 25-year-old to become unsettled.
This incidence played itself out as he was absent for his side in the El Clasico game. Despite his team scoring a late goal that was crucial to the side, Rodriguez refused to celebrate his side’s performance.
Rodriguez has appeared just two times in his club’s last ten La Liga games and Zidane is confident that the Colombian will constitute a bigger problem.
On Tuesday, Zidane spoke to the media. He said; “I have much respect for James Rodriguez. He trains hard and helps a lot. We do not have any issues to resolve, everyone here is in good terms, but if a player doesn’t get enough game time, he could opt to exit the club, my club, and I hold Rodriguez in high regard. I must acknowledge that he is a problem for us now because he doesn’t get consistent game time.”
This season, Rodriguez has made 13 appearances for his club, but he came in as a substitute in nearly all the 13 appearances.
During the few occasions he played, he was able to score two goals and contributed seven assists.
Comparing Rodriguez and the team’s first-choice attacking midfielder, Isco, James’ record is better although, It appears Isco is also having a hard time pulling through this season. Just like Rodriguez, he has scored only two goals in 15 appearances, and he contributed fewer assists than Rodriguez.
Although Rodriguez’s poor performance may be deemed better than Isco’s preferable performance, it would be good to note that Isco has contributed more to Zidane’s preferred style, making him a preferable choice.
