PSG loses top spot after draw with Ludogorets

PSG surrendered first place position in Group A of the Champions League to Arsenal after playing out a 2-2 draw with Bulgarian side, Ludogorets.

PSG salvaged a point from the contest through a late minute strike from Angel di Maria, with Ludogorets now eligible to continue their European campaign in the Europa League.

Ludogorets were on their way to a famous victory at Parc des Princes on Tuesday night with goals from Virgil Misidjan and Wanderson until after Angel Di Maria scored two minutes from time.

Misidjan scored a header in the first half to give Ludogorets the lead, but Edison Cavani equalized on the half-hour mark with a delightful overhead kick.

Later on, the visitors capitalized on a defensive mix-up to take the lead again through Wanderson. Angel di Maria restored parity towards the end with a well-taken goal.

PSG must find a solution to the recurring sloppy errors if they want to win the champions league this season.  The French club has been eliminated for four straight seasons at the quarter-final stage of the Champions League.

The club president, Nasser Al –khelaifi, fired Coach Laurent Blanc at the end of last season despite winning back to back domestic titles. It is clear that European glory is what the club’s hierarchy yearns for.

The club president has already expressed his displeasure to the players; he said they are falling short of expectation.

“We were determined to win this group, and we were on top before this game,” he said

“I am not impressed with this performance, the result and the quality of play.”

“Am expecting more from the players but they didn’t live up to expectation.”

PSG coach, Unai Emery, who was appointed towards the end of last season also spoke on the team’s performance.

“My team is conceding plenty of goals at the moment and am worried.”
