Unai Emery believes PSG is gradually making progress after a tumultuous start in the beginning of the season.
The reigning Ligue 1 champions, Paris Saint-Germain are now second place on the log after defeating Anders 2- 0 on Wednesday through goals from both Thiago Silva and Edison Cavani. PSG scored in the 34th and 66th minute to leapfrog Monaco into second position on the table, one point behind Nice.
Paris Saint-Germain is currently on a winning run, the team has played twelve matches and lost none so far; this comes after a slow start to the season under Unai Emery. The former head coach of Sevilla is glad about the progress the club is making and hopes for improved performance in the days ahead.
“It was a match we couldn’t afford to give away; we needed to win, and we did just that, we needed the three points, for the table because it was a home game,” Emery announced to the media.
“Our team was excellent; we put in attacking prowess against a highly defensive team; it’s always tough to play a side that is highly defensive and plays very compact football. Ligue 1 is very competitive with teams like PSG, Lyon, Monaco and Saint-Ettiene” says Emery.
“What is significant is the performance of the team which I am constantly thinking about and not the performance of other clubs and it pays off if we do our job and do it well. I am satisfied with the two goals though we could have scored more goals because we got some more chances. We are slowly making progress.”
Emery’s men will hope to consolidate on this victory and continue their unbeaten run and spectacular performance as they face Montpellier on Saturday.
Emery joined PSG in 2016 after leading Sevilla to a third consecutive Europa League triumph in 2015/2016.
